Ventilator Attachments
Multiple adapters for respiratory deviced needed to prepare for and respond to supply shortages during the COVID-19 pandemic. These adapters were designed to enable a method of modifying manual ventilation to add a second filter on the exhaust port with the goal of preventing any aerosolized virus from escaping the endotracheal tube via the resuscitation device. This method was based on feedback from experienced clinicians. Using this method DOES NOT replace the need for recommended personal protective equipment (PPE) for people caring for individuals with COVID-19. We have done some basic functional tests, but we CANNOT VERIFY and DO NOT CLAIM that this method is 100% effective at preventing virus escape from the ET tube. Due to the many different available types of ventilation filters and peep valves, an experienced clinician should verify adequate ventilation is occurring when this method is used.
